As you will know, the Duke of York stepped back from public duties in 2019. I do not believe it would be appropriate for me to comment on the ongoing investigations in the United States to which his name has been connected. In relation to the Prince of Wales, I understand that Michael Fawcett, the Chief Executive of the Prince’s Foundation, has stepped down while an investigation is carried out into an alleged offer of honours and citizenship. Clarence House has stated that the Prince had no knowledge of this alleged offer, and that he fully supports the investigation.

Prince Michael of Kent receives no public money and earns his own living running a consultancy company. Like many members of the Royal Family, he represents the Queen on certain engagements. The monarchy plays an important role in our constitution, and I have the highest respect for the Queen and the Royal Family. I do not believe the monarchy should be abolished.
