Today I joined staff and residents at Abney Court’s vintage summer garden party to celebrate Care Home Open Day.

Care Home Open Day is a national event which sees homes across the country open their doors and highlights their role in their local community. The aim is to develop links and relationships across communities and generations. Over 4,300 care homes took part this year to celebrate the theme of “friendship”, by highlighting the friendships that have developed between staff, residents, and their family and friends which make care homes an integral part of their community.

Abney Court opened their doors in Cheadle and residents and the community were treated to a dog show, candy floss and ice cream stalls, and music from the Charleston Charlies. Abney Court have taken part in Care Home Open Day to showcase the care they provide for local people, and this year they paired up with “The Big Lunch”, an initiative to tackle loneliness in communities which is part of the Jo Cox Foundation’s “The Great Get Together.”

I really enjoyed my visit to Cheadle’s Abney Court, and it was wonderful to meet so many residents, staff and guests enjoying a day in their beautiful walled garden!
