It was a pleasure to welcome Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid, to Gatley today to see some of our fantastic local businesses and the ongoing redevelopment of the Tatton Cinema.

I wanted to show the Chancellor how our area is becoming an even better place to live and do business, with many independent businesses opening recently and run down sites being given new life at the heart of communities.

As well as new businesses setting up on our high streets, it’s local household names like Callaghans Estate Agents who have so much to offer our area, and that’s why I took the Chancellor there to hear from an expert voice on our local housing market on how to create the best environment for sensible development and aspiring homeowners.

Of course Sajid couldn’t go without some fuel for the rest of the day’s campaigning so it was great to grab a bite to eat at popular local eatery Armenique, where we had the chance to chat more about supporting local businesses like theirs to continue growing and thriving.

Sajid said: “Mary has often raised the importance of building on brownfield land, and so it was good to join her today at the Tatton Cinema development to see first-hand how more than £1.5 million in investment from Government through Homes England has unlocked this derelict site.

Developing brownfield sites helps to save our green belt, and it was great to hear the view from local estate agent Callaghans on how to approach housebuilding and ensure a vibrant local market. A massive thanks also to Armenique for a brilliant lunch!

Getting local candidates like Mary re-elected is so important in ensuring that we can continue to boost businesses and regenerate local high streets and communities, and I hope people in Gatley and across Cheadle will send Mary back to Westminster next month.”
