CHEADLE MP, Mary Robinson, was guest of honour at a new community church project, which has come about thanks to the dedication of a team of volunteers.
Mary joined Reverend Andrew Lunn at the end of last month to cut the ribbon at the opening of the Horizon Project at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church.
The scheme, managed by Barbara Clark, came about to improve the building and pathways leading up to the church. The opening, at the end of January, was a culmination of years of hard work by a number of volunteers who wanted to champion it as a place to be enjoyed by the whole community.
Visitors at the opening of the centre, which is also home to the Scouts, were invited to get a taste of all the activities on offer, including Zumba and singing classes.
Praising the work of the volunteers, Mary said: “I was delighted to be invited to the opening of the Horizon Project.
“It’s fantastic that churches like Cheadle Hulme Methodist champion the local community and can be fantastic hubs for people to meet.
“I was pleased to be able to speak to so many different people who were enjoying the activities available to them. I wish all at the church the best of luck as their Horizon Project continues to expand.”
