In 1933, the community around Chester Road was given Chester Road Field under covenant. The beautiful green space is open, perfect for dog walkers, walks and casual games, with plenty of space to run about.
This fantastic field, site of many community events, dog walks, casual football games and picnics, has been well used by the local residents, especially during lockdown.
And local residents are well aware of the importance of the space and are passionate advocates in its continuation for generations to come. Covenants are so important in their protection of areas that are important to us, including Chester Road Field, which has been given in perpetuity for free use by the community.
Last week, I went along to the Field to check in with residents on its status and see how much the community benefits from this open green space. In just under an hour we greeted several families and dog walkers, who really appreciated such a wide open space in the heart of community. So many fantastic community events have taken place and continue to be planned on the field – and I look forward to seeing it being well used by the whole community for a long time to come.
