I am delighted to have been re-elected by my colleagues in Parliament to serve on the Communities and Local Government Select Committee.
In the previous Parliament, I had the opportunity to examine more closely some of the key issues affecting Cheadle, such as the Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill, which led to the creation of a Mayor of Greater Manchester and the handing down of powers to our region. I also took part in an inquiry into social care which was launched by the Committee, which led to a report detailing our recommendations for closing funding gaps and improving the quality of care.
I look forward to continuing to work with colleagues across the house to scrutinise the department’s approach to policy to ensure value for money, and to tackle the big issues affecting communities and local government.
