Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced a £1.8 billion cash injection for the NHS to ensure frontline services have the funding they need – delivering on his pledge on the steps of Downing Street.

This includes an £850 million package for 20 hospitals to upgrade outdated facilities and equipment, helping to improve patient care and save more lives, including in Stockport where the Prime Minister has made over £30 million available for a new Emergency Care Campus Development at Stepping Hill Hospital, incorporating an Urgent Treatment Centre, GP assessment unit and Planned Investigation Unit.

This is in addition to the new funding announced last year, where the Government pledged an extra £33.9 billion cash to the NHS by 2023-24 – the biggest cash injection in its history.

This extremely welcome boost will make a real difference to the lives of patients, doctors and nurses at Stepping Hill. The NHS has been there for us whenever we need it for 71 years, and this new funding will ensure it can carry on providing quality care for us in Cheadle and Stockport.

I am so pleased to see that our local needs have been recognised and this extra funding will no doubt be welcomed by constituents who rely on Stepping Hill to keep them healthy and by the hardworking staff who make our NHS the world-class service it is.

This Government is committed to making sure frontline services have the funding they need – meaning more beds, new wards, and extra life-saving equipment to ensure patients continue to receive world-class care.
