Work is finally set to start on the A34 Kingsway in Cheadle after the Government approved the final business case of a £33.6m project to address longstanding traffic and congestion issues on this vital road.
Mary Robinson MP, Member of Parliament for Cheadle welcomed Guy Opperman MP, Road Minister in the Department for Transport, to visit Cheadle Constituency to see the A34 where the works are due to take place.
The scheme will see pedestrians, cyclists and motorists benefit from improved junction layouts, cycle tracks and a much-needed subway replacement at Kingsway School as part of this significant funding package from Government.
Works are part of the Government’s Network North scheme that is delivering £36bn to improve our country’s transport by driving better connectivity between towns and cities as well as improving everyday local journeys for people.
Improvements, delivered in phases to minimise disruption, begin this Winter with the first phases around Gatley Road, Wilmslow Road and Broadway starting in the next few weeks.
Not only will the upgrade benefit the Cheadle area, but the improvements will generate £76.8m in direct economic benefits. And boost transport links to Manchester Airport and Manchester city centre.
