A £13bn investment plan has been unveiled which explains the improvements to the rail and road networks across the North.

This is a strong statement showing that this Conservative government is serious about creating a Northern Powerhouse. Through these sorts of developments we can create an environment that will help to foster growth and innovation across the region and right here in Cheadle too.

The Transport Secretary, Patrick McLoughlin, said : "This one nation government is determined to close the economic gap between north and south. Investing in transport – something that successive governments have failed to do sufficiently – is vital to making that happen."

I welcome this investment and while it is a fantastic start, creating the Northern Powerhouse will need more over the coming years.
