Today on the steps of Number 10 Downing Street the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced that he would resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party.
Over the past few days and weeks, it has been clear that the Prime Minister has lost the confidence, not only of backbench MPs, but also of Ministers and Cabinet members whose support is fundamental to effective Government.
Earlier this year I highlighted the need for culture change saying that “trust in politics and politicians is an integral part of the contract we have with the people we represent, and I look forward to it being restored” …… I reiterate that sentiment now as a new Cabinet and Ministers take up their roles and a new leader is chosen to take our country forward.
Meanwhile, my focus continues to be on serving the people of Cheadle and working to level up our country and bring investment to our area.
