GSCE students got a lesson in politics from Cheadle MP Mary Robinson, who came to talk to them about the EU Referendum. As part of their coursework the students from Cheadle Hulme High School looked at the ‘Stronger in Campaign’ and canvassed the opinions of their peers as to whether Britain should stay in the EU or leave. Whilst, many people across Stockport are still undecided on how to vote on 23rd June, their ‘pupil petition’ was overwhelming in its support to stay in the EU with more than 600 people within the School supporting the Campaign. Mary, who joined the students to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of both campaigns, said: “As the Member of Parliament for Cheadle, my main concern is to ensure that individuals and business are appropriately and accurately informed to help them make their own decision on this topic.” After the visit Mary added: “I really enjoyed my visit to the Citizenship Class it is such an important subject in developing young people’s minds and giving them the knowledge and skills to prepare them for the future and to play a full and active part in society. In a few weeks time we will know whether that future is in Europe or out.”
