Mary Robinson, Member of Parliament for Cheadle, recently visited Hursthead Infant School in her constituency where she met with staff and pupils and took a look around the excellent facilities.
Whilst visiting the school in Cheadle Hulme, Mary also had the opportunity to discuss the issue of school funding.
Mary, who is a supporter of the F40 campaign group which is urging the Government to implement a funding formula that would ensure fair funding based on pupil need, spoke in a Westminster Hall Debate on this issue, as well as signing a joint letter to the Prime Minister urging action.
Mary said:
‘Cheadle has some fantastic schools. However, it’s wrong that Stockport Council receives less funding per pupil than the national average.’
‘It’s great that under this Government school funding has been protected for 2016-17. I’m also pleased that the Department for Education has committed to addressing the historical imbalance in school funding.’
‘It’s now important that we keep up the momentum on this important issue. My constituents deserve swift and comprehensive funding reform to deliver fairness for their children and I will continue to work with local schools and make sure their concerns are heard in Parliament.’
