Mary Robinson MP recently visited Cheadle Hulme High School and took part in a new style of Maths lesson.
Cheadle Hulme High School is connected to the North West One Maths Hub which is dedicated to spreading the excellent practice and teaching of maths for the benefit of all students. As part of this programme two exchange teachers from Shanghai visited the school to share their vision of Mastery teaching. This form of teaching aims to give a deeper, more long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of maths which reaches beyond the ability to complete tests.
Across the country maths standards are improving thanks to an £11 million network of Maths Hubs. Cheadle is no different and this summer the High School achieved it’s best ever GCSE results with 86% of students achieving grades A* - C including Maths.
Mary said: “I was delighted to be invited to the school again and take part in the students’ maths lesson. It was interesting to see the different approaches taken in teaching what can be a challenging subject. Both students and teacher’s enthusiasm shone through and I hope that their understanding of maths continues to grow and prepares them for their future endeavours.”
