Cheadle MP Mary Robinson recently met with Stockport’s Healthy Rivers Trust who are promoting their valuable work in the preservation, restoration and development of local waterways with a competition to win a free plumbing call-out.
One of the things the group is keen to educate residents on is how streams and rivers are at risk of contamination from dirty water flushed back into the system due to misconnections in plumbing, with washing machine misconnections being one of the key culprits in the home.
To promote their work the trust has launched a competition for Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme residents to find their homes misconnections, with the first 10 to report a fault receiving a free plumbing visit.
Mary said: “It is really important that we protect the environment that we live in whether that be picking up litter or ensuring that our rivers stay unpolluted. I would appeal to all residents to double check any problem plumbing and help protect our rivers.”
The Trust also wants to hear from residents to help them name the ‘Stream with No Name’ which runs between Cheadle College and Bruntwood Park.
