On Wednesday, Cheadle MP Mary Robinson raised the ongoing traffic chaos on A34 with the Prime Minister in PMQs. The A34/A560 junction in Cheadle and Gatley is notorious among local residents as a traffic blackspot and is one of the five busiest junctions in the area. The capacity and performance of the junction will be considered as part of the SEMMMs Strategy review. However, Mary believes that more concrete action needs to be taken in face of the large number of proposed housing developments and the jobs growth expected within the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework. In his response the Prime Minister said it was “absolutely the right time” for the issue to be raised as the Government is investing £13bn in transport across the north over this parliament. Plans are also well underway for the next road investment strategy after 2020. Mary said: “Following the investment in the SEMMMs Strategy, I am pleased that the Government is committed to continuing with much needed improvements to our transport infrastructure in the North and I hope that this is another step forward in addressing the traffic chaos in Cheadle.”
