I welcome the news that one primary school and three high schools in Stockport, all in my constituency, have been successful in their bids for extra funding to help bring buildings up to scratch and ensure that students continue to learn in a safe and modern environment.

The Government has recently announced the schools which have been successful in applying for money from the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF). The CIF is awarded annually and helps schools and colleges to stay in good working order.

In 2018-19 £514 million will be spent on 1,556 projects at 1,299 academies and sixth-form colleges across the country, which also includes £38 million supported by the Healthy Pupils Capital Fund, which helps improve children and young people’s physical and mental health through improving relevant facilities. This is an increase compared to last year, when £466million was spent on 1,435 projects at 1,184 academies and sixth-form colleges.

In Stockport five projects have been given the go-ahead. Gatley Primary school will receive funding to replace windows and doors and Cheadle Hulme High School will also be able to repair and replace windows in need of it. The Kingsway School will carry out re-roofing works to the teaching block, and Hazel Grove High School will benefit from the replacement of part of their heating system, as well as kitchen alterations and extending their dining area.

I’m pleased to see that schools in Cheadle are being given the necessary funding to be able to continue providing a great learning environment for pupils.
