Volunteers’ week takes place during the first week of June every year, and celebrates the people who give up their time to contribute to valuable causes in their communities up and down the country.

I joined members of the team at Barnardos in Cheadle Hulme to hear their stories about how they first came to be a volunteer and what it means to them to play a part in the success of a great local charity. Volunteers spoke about their stories and their reasons for getting involved over a breakfast buffet and a morale boosting singalong!

During the visit, I presented the dedicated team with certificates to thank them for all of their efforts and contributions during their time as volunteers, but especially in the past year, when Barnardos Cheadle Hulme has raised nearly £64,000 for some of the most vulnerable children, and has also raised over £4,000 in Gift Aid on top of this.

I was delighted to be able to celebrate Volunteers’ Week by thanking the wonderful Barnardos team for all the great work they’re doing. It was uplifting to hear so many positive reasons for becoming a volunteer and giving something back to the community. They’ve raised an incredible amount of money for a great cause, and I know the team spirit that was on show will see them go from strength to strength.
