A farmer has spread chicken manure on two fields, one in Cheadle Hulme and one just over the border in Cheshire East. This is legal but the Council are double checking his manure management plan to confirm everything was done safely.
This has to be done to fertilise the fields and the best time to do so is just before it rains, which helps all the nutrients soak into the soil.
The combination of good weather and a breeze allowed the smell to spread before the rain washed it into the soil.
