Below is the question Mary asked in Parliament during the defence debate on Monday.
"I am pleased that people across the UK are already benefiting from the Government’s home-buying initiatives, and I am sure the Secretary of State shares my view that it is important that the same opportunities are available to members of our armed forces. What steps is he taking to increase the number of servicemen and women who own their own home?"
Mark Lancaster, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence responded, telling me that our forces Help to Buy scheme has enabled 5,000 personnel to buy their own home and he wants to double that to 10,000 in the next 12 months.
Mary said "I am glad to hear such progress is being made to help our service men and women get onto the property ladder and give them the security of owning their homes."
